The D Spot – Philippines Top 100 Blogs for 2008

Viewed 1492 times

One of the blogs that got included in the Philippines Top 100 Blogs for 2008 is the award-winner The D Spot. Sexy Mom Dine shares her blog secret.

Janette: What have you done in 2008 for your blog that contributed to its growth?

Dine: I was more innovative last 2008 compared to 2007, such that, I:
- posted more regularly and frequently.
- carried out an email campaign for posts which I felt would generate a lot of interest, like those that were socio-economic and socio-politically relevant, those that had universal appeal.
- saw to it that the titles had keywords that were catchy and searchable.
- improved the visuals in my side bars.
- made my 2 major UAAP posts which drew a lot of traffic more informative, not taking sides, plain reporting, with sprinklings of side stories. When I wanted to take sides, I wrote individual posts. Even if one of my UAAP post was dated back more than a year ago and the other one months ago, readers keep coming back for updates.
- interacted with my readers and commenters, as much as possible.
- included links when necessary.

I was also lucky because my blog was awarded best Blog–Family and Living Category by the recently concluded 2nd Philippine Blog Award. It was also a finalist for Single Post–Photo Blog and Single Post–Arts and Culture.

Janette: What marketing strategy works best for your blog?

Dine: SEO and improved AdSense location (top and bottom).

Janette: How much % of your annual income do you attribute to your blog as the source?

Dine: Very minimal. My blog is more my network to the world than a direct money generating vehicle. My blog serves as a portfolio of my works that holds credibility at the same time. Because of this, I get projects and writing assignments.

Janette: What tips can you give to bloggers who would like to achieve blog growth?

Dine: Your readers matter foremost. Make your blog reader friendly–include images, pictures, quotes when relevant, such that you hold the attention of your reader, and that first-time readers would like to come back.

Write posts with topics that you enjoy writing about–write from your heart. Write original content, unique content, and content that is universally appealing. Keep your posts short and simple. If you want to write a long post, make use of sub-titles and split your paragraphs. Build a community and grow with your community.

An Apple a Day – Philippines Top 100 Blogs for 2008

Viewed 1605 times, 4 so far today

Aileen ApoloOne of the blogs that got included in the Philippines Top 100 Blogs for 2008 is An Apple a Day. Aileen shares her blog secret.

Janette: What have you done in 2008 for your blog that contributed to its growth?

Aileen: I think I was just consistent, I have not done anything major this year to drive more traffic in my blog. Getting exposed though through Blogger Buzz and Manila Bulletin I think have helped in its growth as well. Attending events and meeting more bloggers may also have contributed to its growth.

Janette: What marketing strategy works best for your blog?

Aileen: I don’t have one, I think my blog grew mainly because of word-of-mouth. Content is king =)

Janette: How much % of your annual income do you attribute to your blog as the source?

Aileen: None actually, I never really thought of earning from my blog, I do get clicks from Adsense but I have not really checked in the past few months.

Janette: What tips can you give to bloggers who would like to achieve blog growth?

Aileen: (1) Be consistent; (2) Be yourself; (3) Mingle!

Maiylah’s Snippets – Philippines Top 100 Blogs for 2008

Viewed 1398 times

One of the blogs that got included in this year’s Philippines Top 100 Blogs for 2008 is Maiylah’s Snippets. Myla shares her blog secret.

Janette: What have you done this year for your blog that contributed to its growth?

Myla: I have actually not done anything different this year with my blog, except maybe put up a weekly meme for foodies, the Food Friday.

Janette: What marketing strategy works best for your blog?

Myla: Honestly, I don’t have any marketing strategies. I enjoy blogging and so have tried visiting other bloggers and commenting on their sites when I can. They, in turn, usually get back to me and either exchange links with me or leave comments on my site, too.

Janette: How much % of your annual income do you attribute to your blog as the source?

Myla: It’s actually quite small, but enough to buy some of my wants (like a Canon EOS 450D, for one).

Janette: What tips can you give to bloggers who would like to achieve blog growth?

Myla: Visiting other sites and commenting works for me, as well as joining some weekly meme-like posts. You get to meet similarly-minded individuals and some of them you might even meet in person! Great way to meet friends … and increase your blog’s exposure.

Alleba Blog – Philippines Top 100 Blogs for 2008

Viewed 1529 times

Andrew Dela Serna’s Alleba Blog got included in this year’s Philippines Top 100 Blogs for 2008.

Andrew, who also owns Ratified, shares his blog secret.

Janette: What have you done this year for your blog that contributed to its growth?

Andrew: I try to write about topics that I’m interested in, but admittedly I don’t write as often as I’d like. My older posts are still what gives me regular traffic. Hopefully when I have the time, I can go back to blogging full blast.

Janette: What marketing strategy works best for your blog?

Andrew: I can’t specify a marketing strategy. What works best for me is to write a great post and promote it to my online friends through Plurk, Twitter and forums. And everything else will follow.

Janette: How much % of your annual income do you attribute to your blog as the source?

Andrew: Strictly speaking, only 5% of my annual income comes from blogging. There are other avenues to earn money online. You just need to know where to look.

Janette: What tips can you give to bloggers who would like to achieve blog growth?

Andrew: Find your niche. Blog about something you’re passionate about. At first don’t be too concerned about earning money immediately. Build your blog with quality posts. Avoid paid posts, at least for the moment. To keep track of your blog’s progress, get ratified!
